Page 1 of 2 Greetings from North Alabama where Fall has fell. We’ve finally had a cool down and have been able to open the windows during the day. It sure makes for some fine sleeping weather here in the south when temps drop down into the 50’s during the night.
Cotton picking season is in full swing; from all appearances, it is going to be a good crop. We have gotten rains at the right time and now during the harvest season the rains have held off so the big picking machines can work the fields.
I guess it’s a sign of the changing times that the local newspapers no longer print articles describing the local crop productions. I can still remember when there was a daily Gin report with the number of bales of cotton ginned and the average tonnage shipped out. In the small West Tennessee town where I grew up, it was always printed who had the first cotton bloom and the first bole of cotton to open. The farmers saw it as a “Badge of Honor” to be first.
